What is a Meal Plan?
A Meal Plan offers delicious meals, coffee, snacks, and more at our two all-you-care-to-eat dining halls, various retail locations, coffee shops, and on-campus markets. Meal Plans include a combination of Meal Swipes and Purple or Gold Bucks, conveniently loaded onto your student's 1 Card. No need to carry additional cards or cash!
Meal Swipes
Meal Swipes provide access to our all-you-care-to-eat dining halls (Todd & West End). With an Unlimited Purple Plan, students can visit the dining halls as many times as they’d like all semester long. With a Gold Plan, students can access the dining halls using one of their Pirate Meal swipes or Gold Bucks to pay the discounted door price.
Purple and Gold Bucks
Students can use their Bucks at any ECU Dining location. Visit our locations page for location information, including dining hall menus and hours of operation.
Pirate Meals
Pirate Meals add variety to Meal Plans by offering the ultimate convenience and value. They can be used for combo meal options at our retail locations or can be exchanged as a swipe into our dining halls without having to dip into Purple or Gold Bucks.
Guest Meals
Unlimited Purple Plans include 5 guest meals that can be used at either Todd or West End Dining Hall each semester.
Meal Plan Benefits
With a Meal Plan students receive many benefits and perks, including:
- Quality food made fresh by our culinary team, with a variety of menu options that can be personalized
- Healthy choices available all across campus
- Special events with themed meals
- Dedicated Allergen Friendly station at Todd Dining Hall called True Balance, and at West End Dining Hall called Simple Selections
On-Campus Residents
All students living on campus are required to have one of our Unlimited Purple Plans. These are chosen through their housing selection, but can be updated on their PiratePort.
Commuter Students
Commuter students can take advantage of one of our Gold Plans, designed for the on the go Pirate student in mind. If students plan to dine on campus 2 or more times a week these plans will help them do that and offer the most value.

It would be nice for our required dining plan to have accessible options this morning in a timely manner before a morning full of classes. Why is only one dining option open with limited hours on one end of campus?
Thanks for looking into it.
where are the costs for each plan?
Where can I add more money on my son's meal plan for swipes at the chain restaurants on campus?
