The Pirate Academic Success Center
The Pirate Academic Success Center (PASC) offers ECU students free tutoring and academic success services. In the last year the PASC served 6,701 students with 51% of on-campus students utilizing services ranging from course specific tutoring to individualized success coaching. Centrally located on ECU’s main campus, PASC is in the 2300 wing of the Old Cafeteria Complex on the first and second floors. Students can make appointments by calling 252-737-3009 or by visiting the center Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Free Tutoring Services
PASC offers tutoring for 135 courses every semester. Tutoring assistance with undergraduate coursework is offered in both face to face and digital formats. In the Fall 2020 semester, tutoring services will be provided digitally by peer undergraduate tutors using the TEAMS platform.
Peer tutors are fellow students who are faculty recommended, earned an A in the course and are trained to provide course content. Tutoring sessions focus on course content and review lecture materials. Digital tutoring is also available. Help videos are made for the following courses: CHEM 1120, 1130, 1150, 1160, 2750, 2760, Biology 2130, 2140, 2150, Physics 1250 and 1260. Student enrolled in those classes are automatically added to the video help sites on CANVAS.
Academic Success Services
Academic strategy building is a key ingredient to student success. In combination with tutoring services PASC offers support to ECU students challenged by maintaining successful study habits and strategies.
Professional study skills coaches help students build effective academic strategies to balance school demands and achieve academic success.
Peer Success Navigators and Peer Academic Success Coaches work with students on time management, academic accountability, and help build effective skill strategies.
The PASC provides other success services including a CANVAS success resources course, Connect for Success freshmen call center, Mindset for Success academic recovery program, and a freshman Learning Community.
