ECU Families, welcome to Pirate Nation! As mentioned in our Navigating Uncharted Waters presentation during summer orientation, ECU takes the safety of our students very seriously. We are dedicated to supporting the development and success of students. Therefore, ECU would like to assist in educating students to enhance personal safety and the safety of the campus community. This education is provided through online modules. The modules are provided through 3rd Millenium Classroom. First year students are expected to complete these modules.

3rd Millenium Classroom provides education on a variety of topics aimed to increase awareness and knowledge for our first-year students in the areas of alcohol and cannabis use as well as Title IX requirements to promote respectful, healthy relationships.

Alcohol Wise: provides normative drinking information, harm reduction strategies, and alcohol education in support of enhancing campus safety.

Cannabis Wise: informs students about the facts, risks, and consequences of using or distributing cannabis.

Consent and Respect: shares information on the importance of giving and receiving consent and will understand that consent is essential. Additional learning includes safe and positive strategies for bystanders to use and the warning signs for abusive behavior in intimate partner relationships.

Please consider having specific conversations with your student(s) regarding the areas of alcohol and drug use, personal safety, relationship/dating safety as well as ways to manage stress and the transition to college. ECU holds personal safety as a top priority, and we want students to have as much information as possible to be successful and thrive in our community.

The online modules are an excellent way for students to obtain information and resources regarding some of the most common areas students may have to negotiate, especially during the first six weeks of college.

Your student will receive information via their ECU email address regarding these modules; however, we ask that you also encourage them to complete the modules. This way, students can be exposed to these valuable concepts and tools.

For your information, below are the instructions for students to complete the online modules:

To access the 3rd Millenium Classroom modules:

1. Access the ECU Pirate Port site, enter your Pirate ID and Passphrase.
2. Click on the “My Apps” tab at the top of the page.
3. Locate the icon (orange triangle) labeled “Safety Awareness” and click it. This link will take
you to the 3rd Millenium Classroom website where you will complete the modules.
