Posted 8 months ago in Prospective Families.

Greetings Families!

We are so excited to welcome our new Pirates onto the ship! Orientation is an invaluable experience designed to help your student acclimate to campus life, connect with fellow students, and set the foundation for a successful academic career. Also, Orientation is important for parents and guardians to see the campus and understand how they play an important role in their student’s collegiate success. We understand that you may have questions, so let's dive into the details:

What is Orientation?

ECU Orientation serves as your introduction to campus life and academics. It's a comprehensive program designed to help students transition smoothly into university life.

Why Should Students Attend?

Orientation is a time for students to acclimate to campus, meet other new incoming students, familiarize themselves with campus, explore the facilities, services, and resources offered on campus, and gain valuable insight into academics and extracurriculars at the university.

When are the Dates?

Freshman Orientation will be on the following dates-

June 10th – 11th*
June 12th – 13th
June 17th – 18th
June 19th – 20th
June 24th – 25th
June 26th – 27th*
July 1st – 2nd
July 8th – 9th
July 10th – 11th
July 15th – 16th

* Honors Students should sign up for Session 1 (June 10/11) or Session 6 (June 26/27). Brinkely-Lane Scholars must sign up for Session 6.

Registration and Cost for Students?

Students will register for their desired Orientation date through PiratePort. The student fee to attend a two-day Orientation is $155. This price includes your ECU 1 Card, all activities and program materials, three meals, evening snacks, parking, shuttles, facility usage, and staffing. This fee is separate from your $100 enrollment verification fee.

Meals and Lodging for Students?

During Orientation, meals and lodging will be provided for students. Upon checking in for Orientation, students will be given a key to stay in an on-campus residence hall. Students will live on same-sex floors and with the Orientation Assistants and other new students. They will also be assigned a random roommate. The cost to stay overnight is $33 and includes linens, pillows, towels, and soap.

Should a Parent or Guardian Attend?

While not mandatory, we highly encourage parents or guardians to join us for Orientation. It's an excellent opportunity for you to learn about campus resources, support services, and how you can assist your student during their academic journey. Preparing for Orientation is your student’s first step in creating their college experience, so let them hold the reins.

Cost for Parents/Guardians?

The cost for a guest to attend Orientation is $85 for the first guest and $40 for each additional family member.

Meals and Lodging for Parents/Guardians?

Some meals will be covered for parents and guests but not as many as the students. Parents and guests can stay in a residence hall during Orientation, but please be advised that this residence hall will be separate from the students. Parents or guests are also welcome to stay in local hotels or Airbnbs/VRBOs.

How to Sign Up?

Students can register for an Orientation session online by going to PiratePort. They will need their Pirate ID and password in order to register.
