Hi Elizabeth,
Yes, Campus Living is aware of the situation. They will be following up on all work orders that were submitted about the issue to make sure the problem is taken care of.
During the fall term students sometimes report AC concerns. Every time Campus Living has a reported concern a technician responds and generally, they find a build up of dust on the filter and vents. Despite regular servicing, this dust builds up quickly as the units circulate a lot of air. Their technicians are often accompanied by staff from Environmental Health and Safety. They check Humidity levels and for other environmental problems. Units with dust are cleaned and if other concerns are found (which is rare) they are immediately addressed.
Unfortunately, this time of year has considerable allergens in outdoor air, it is humid which increases exterior mold and we have lots of new people who arrive and we see both colds and flu circulate.
If your student has dust on their filter they can wash it out or fill out a work order. It is a carbon filter so the water will appear black.
