This year, first-year and transfer students will be able to self-select their residence hall room for the 2025-2026 academic year! Students have received an email from Campus Housing with their selection time-slot and instructions on how to complete their selection.
To assist your student with the process, below you’ll find additional information and frequently asked questions. If after reading this article you still have questions, you can contact the ECU Housing Office at housing@ecu.edu or 252-328-4663.
Who Selects?
- Room selection is only available for First Year and New Transfer students; Returning students already had their window to select their room.
- Students who submitted their housing applications by 5/22/25 and are not part of a special population are eligible for room selection.
How to Access
- Room selection will be accessed via a link in the housing portal via PiratePort, where you submitted your housing application. Access the housing portal through the Campus Living-Housing tile.
- Room selection time-slots will begin on Monday, June 2 at 9am, and close on Monday, June 16 at 5pm.
- There is a limit on the number of users the portal can handle at one time, so eligible students will be given a time-slot to enter the housing portal. Once your time-slot day/time has been reached, you can access the portal to select a space anytime until the end of room selection.
- Time-slots are assigned based on the order in which housing applications are submitted - the earlier the application, the earlier the time-slot.
- Time-slots will be assigned as intervals between 9am and 4:30pm on Monday-Friday, and you will be able to see what your time-slot is going to be at 5pm on Friday, May 30, in the housing portal. Time-slots will not be distributed via email, you must log into the housing portal to view your time-slot.
- Once you select a room, that is your room, so choose wisely!
Special Populations (LLC, Honors, Athletes, etc.)
- Students in Living Learning Communities, with DSS accommodations, Athletes, or other special programs are not eligible for room selection.
- Students in these special groups are assigned by our team to the designated/appropriate locations.
Roommate Groups
- Roommate groups needed to be confirmed by May 1.
- If you have a roommate group, only one student will select a room for both roommates, to ensure both roommates are assigned together correctly.
- If a roommate group is confirmed, whoever selects the room MUST assign the 2nd bed space to their roommate (will be in drop down if confirmed roommate group).
- If you have a student you want to live with, but did not make a roommate group, you can enter the portal at the same time (once you both have access) and together, select a room with 2 open bed spaces and each claim one of the beds in that room. One student will select the first bed listed, and the other student will select the second bed listed, in the dropdown.
FAQs
- I’m not seeing the Hall/Room I want, what do I do? The rooms and halls we have available are what you see on the screen. We are not hiding any rooms. All rooms that were not already selected by returners or held for populations like LLCs, Honors, Athletes, are (or were) options.
- What happens if I don’t select a room? We will assign you through our regular auto-allocation assignment process, once room selection ends.
- What if I miss my timeslot? You can enter the portal any time AFTER your timeslot passes up until the selection process closes at 5pm on 6/16.
- I didn’t get a chance to select my preferred roommate/create a roommate group? You and your preferred roommate can enter the portal at the same time and find an empty room. You each would assign yourselves to one of the beds. One student selects the first space, and the other student selects the second space in the dropdown within the room.
- I selected the wrong room or a room that didn’t have space for my roommate too, what do I do? Contact Campus Living at 252-328-4663 so we can verify your selection and see if further steps are needed.
- How do I get a single? There are no single rooms available for first year students. If you believe you would qualify for an accommodation through Disability Support Services, please reach out to them regarding your need. If you need an accommodation due to religious reasons, please submit a letter with your situation, along with a letter from your spiritual/religious leader explaining your need, on their official letterhead to HOUSING@ecu.edu for review. Space is limited and there are no guarantees.
