Classes beginning at or after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020 are canceled and are scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020.
Starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 employees should observe Condition 1 until midnight and move to Condition 2 from 12:01 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21 of the University Adverse Weather & Emergency Event policy. ECU administrators continue to monitor the approaching winter storm. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Greenville/Pitt County beginning 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 to 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21.
Mixed wintry precipitation is expected to impact Pitt County and eastern North Carolina beginning Thursday afternoon through early Friday to include the possibility of 4-6 inches of snow (with locally higher amounts possible).
Conditions experienced by individuals will vary, and everyone is responsible for their own actions and safety.
Road conditions are expected to be hazardous Thursday night into Friday morning; consider traveling on major roads that have been treated and cleared by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The latest road conditions can be checked at www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel/ .
Slick spots may develop on elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses; motorists are urged to use caution during late night and early morning commutes. When traveling stay alert, avoid cellphone use, leave early to allow for additional travel time, reduce speed, increase following distance, and be patient.
