How do they approve it? When he clicks on the link in the email to "approve" it doesn't do anything- it brings me back to the family portal and won't allow me to access anything. Not sure how to explain!
Your son should receive your connection request to his ECU email, yes. He will click on the link and log in with his ECU username and password. He will see your request and be able to make the appropriate approvals.
If the email link is not working, he can log on to his Pirate Port, search FERPA, and click on the FERPA Permissions tile. It should automatically log in for him and should see your request and respond accordingly.

In what way is it not working?
It takes 24 hours for you to view your student's information in your Parent and Family Portal account after your student approves. (The system updates every evening around 2am). So if your student approved today, you'll see their information tomorrow!
