We advise incoming families to wait submitting their student connection request until after your student has attended New Student Orientation.

East Carolina University understands that family members are invested in their student’s education. We also know that parents offer critical support to encourage student success. To aid family members’ efforts in supporting our students, we want to inform you that parents can request a FERPA waiver for the following pieces of student information:

• Class schedule
• Account balance/payments due
• Financial aid information
• Holds on account
• Grade information
  
• Graduation information

To connect to your student:

1. Click the Grad Cap on the top of this page.
2. Click the “Go to my connections” button.
3. Enter your student’s university email address and then check the box to request information.
4. Once you click the blue “connect to student” button your student will get an email asking them to approve the connection.
5. About 24 hours after they approve the connection you will begin to get notifications about your student's academic and financial information.

Students will receive an email (at their www.ecu.edu email account) prompting them to indicate to which components of their student academic and financial record they would like to grant parents access to. For the components that your student approves, you will be able to log on to the portal and benefit from the information that the student chooses to share with you. 

East Carolina University must adhere to FERPA, the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act, and by law cannot share information about your student’s records with third parties without the student’s consent.

Please note that students can revoke these privileges at any time and that we expect students to directly communicate their business and academic needs with university offices and faculty.

Please also note that this FERPA waiver is strictly for the purpose of your student sharing information with you through Campus ESP. Your student will still need to file a hard copy FERPA waiver (Buckley Form) with the Registrar's Office using their PiratePort in order for the University to share information with you should you call or visit the University.
